Hannah's Reading and Comprehension Scores Doubled
Since vision therapy, Hannah enjoys reading challenging books for pleasure.
Dear Dr. Gallaway,
Last June Hannah’s school contacted me requesting to test Hannah for Special Education due to continued reading struggles. They had even decided what type of class would be best for her. I declined their testing and first sought vision and auditory testing.
In Dr Gallaway’s examination, he found that not only did Hannah have severe amblyopia but she was severely far sighted. How could she read when she couldn’t see? After several lens changes, patching and vision therapy, Hannah is reading much more efficiently. She now reads for pleasure and is choosing books which are more and more challenging.
The school was very skeptical about vision therapy and felt I was wasting Hannah’s time. It brought be great pleasure to sit in a meeting in January and hear that Hannah’s scores in both fluency and comprehension had doubled between September and January. At that time, Hannah had completed only half of the prescribed vision therapy.
The school was very skeptical about vision therapy… It brought me great pleasure to sit in a meeting and hear that Hannah’s scores in fluency and comprehension had doubled.
Vision therapy has been a huge part of Hannah’s improved reading, reduced school anxiety and improved general happiness. Dr. Gallaway and the entire staff have been supportive and encouraging throughout this process. I highly recommend both vision therapy and this office. Our family is extremely grateful for the help of everyone here.
