Vision Therapy Results in Faster Recovery from Concussion
Study overturns “wait and see” approach, showing office-based treatment improves convergence insufficiency outcomes.

A new study just published in the most widely read sports medicine journal in the world, The British Journal of Sports Medicine, shows that a wait and see approach is not the best way to resolve concussion related convergence (eye teaming) problems. People in the study were adolescents and young adults who still had visual symptoms at least a month after concussion. One group received immediate vision therapy and the other group had no treatment. After 6 weeks, nearly 80% of the immediate vision therapy group were cured or improved compared to only 13% in the delayed treatment group. The delayed group then received treatment and after 8 weeks, 95% of both groups were either cured or improved. This study is the highest quality scientific evidence that vision therapy works for post concussion convergence problems.
Watchful waiting for too long will only prolong headaches, double vision, dizziness and eyestrain that can make returning to school, work or sports so difficult.
